Metamyelocytes

Definition
Metamyelocytes belong to the postmitotic pool of myelopoiesis, i.e. they are no longer capable of mitosis. They only continue to differentiate. Metamyelocytes constitute approximately of the nucleated cells (myelogram).

Appearance:
Metamyelocytes strongly resemble mature neutrophils. The nucleus however, is still plump and one half of the diameter is indented at the most. The cytoplasm is pale pink with fine granules.
