Neutrophilic abnormalities that typically occur in bacterial infections, such as coarse granules, vacuoles and Döhle bodies, are described as toxic. However, these abnormalities can also be observed in the recovery stage after myelosuppressive chemotherapy. Stimulation with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) can amplify these abnormalities.
