Metamyelocytes

Definition
Metamyelocytes belong to the postmitotic pool of granulopoiesis, i.e. they are no longer capable of mitosis. They only continue to differentiate. Metamyelocytes constitute approximately 10-25% of the nucleated cells (myelogram).

Appearance:

Metamyelocytes strongly resemble mature neutrophils. The nucleus however, is still plump and one half of the diameter is indented at the most. The cytoplasm is pale pink with fine granules.
