Definition:
Megakaryocytopoiesis is the process of platelet formation . This process is also known as thrombopoiesis. Daily production is 250 x 109 platelets or 2-4 x 109/kg body weight.
Stages:
Megakaryoblasts --> megakaryocytes --> platelets.
The distinction between megakaryoblasts and megakaryocytes is not clinically significant.
