Myeloblasts in the peripheral blood

Appearance:

Myeloblasts are the first developmental stage of granulopoiesis. Myeloblasts are 15 - 20 µm in diameter; have a basophilic cytoplasm without granules and a nucleus with fine, slightly structured chromatin and several noticeable nucleoli.

Occurrence:

• Severe bacterial infections with so-called
• leukemoid reaction
• Myeloproliferative syndromes (chronic myelocytic leukemia and primary myelofibrosis with extramedullary hematopoieis)
• Myelodysplastic syndromes
